Final Countdown

by David on Jun.28, 2009, under Leaving, Preparation

Hey guys, The time for me to leave for Denmark is fast approaching. In about a month i will be on my way to see Matt, and i week after that i will be in Denmark. Yesterday i actually recieved the letter that told me where i will be staying and who i will be staying with. I will have a Single Mom, a 16 year old sister, and a 14 year old brother. I have actually began to email my exchange mother and she seems like a very nice and wonderful person. I will miss you all when i am gone and still if you could send me your addresses so that i can write you letters while i am there, it would greatly help. I will not have a phone and i will only be able to communicate with you guys through this blog. I wish you all the best and i am hoping to update this blog at least once more before i leave. Thank you to all you loyal readers and remember to keep reading and telling your friends about this. :)

Changes

by David on May.28, 2009, under Leaving, Preparation

Hey for anyone who i have not actually told yet…i will not be going to greece. YFU decided to cancel the trip for everyone because it did not meet standards(whatever that means). Don’t be discouraged though because they gave me ten other countries to choose from. My top three were Denmark, Thailand, and Austria. We got the results back from YFU yesterday nad i will be going to Denmark. I leave on August 2nd. Unfortunatlly that means 2 things. 1. i wont be going to a church thing in Estes Park, Colorado. I do get to go see my brother in Denver before i leave though. The other thing that this means is that i will not be around when the rest of my friends start school, really that one is about how i will really miss them. If you have read my other recent posts you know that this blog will be my only form of contact with all of you besides writing letters. If you prefer letters, or just can’t get on my blog a lot then send me a comment with your address. (Don’t worry no one else will see it). Thank you to all of you loyal readers and others who wish me the best in Denmark. I will miss you all. :)    (Don;t forget to tell your friends about this blog.)

Getting Ready to Go

by David on Jan.14, 2009, under Preparation

So I am getting prepared for Greece. I have almost totally finished the online application the only things I have left to would be to put in my medical insurance information and write a letter to the family that is 500 words or less about myself and what I like to do and other such random things. I also began doing the scolarship application through the usual online application but I recently recieved an email telling me that I would need to hurry up because several of the scholarships have already passed thier turn in dates. I am going to talk to Terry Archer, one of the counselors at Shawnee Mission East, he is not my actual counselor but when I was trying to get into HOBY he was one of the people who tried their hardest to get me in. Apparently he has information that I need to fill out so I can go. Besides the online application, I have to send in like twenty photos and get a lot of papers signed by people at school, myself, and and my mother. So far everything has not been that hard to do. I mean I still have to earn all of the money and get accepted but if i turn everything in soon I should get in. With every donation that those of you have given me I become one step closer. I know that you all are pulling for me and I have a very good feeling that I would get in.

Thanks

by David on Jan.13, 2009, under Preparation

This is the first post where I would like to thank several people for their help getting me this far. First of all is Matt Bernier, my brother, without him I would not have this blog or the donation page that he so gracious set up and made the first donation. Next up on that relative note are my donors thus far. Besides Matt and Melissa, Dustin Swint-Matt’s friend, My Aunt Mere, My friend’s mother Caylon Huckabay, Dean Long, Mary Beth Lacluyse, Marylin Wiemer(I will be doing odd jobs to earn money from her), Hildy Ann McElvain gmaand Lou Ann Donovan. These people have for the most part either donated money on the donation website that will be posted shortly or have agreed to give me work in compensation for money. I also have put forth my own money towards the cause. Beth Bernier, my mother, has agreed to match me dollar for dollar on any money that I earn in the end. We are hoping that I can get a scholarship through HOBY(Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar) that I will be attending in early June. I hope that if you have not already donated that you donate and if not I am still glad that you are reading my blog. :)
